Description:

Announcing a brand new, cover-to-cover revision of America's pregnancy bible. What to Expect When You're Expecting is a perennial New York Times bestseller and one of USA Today's 25 most influential books of the past 25 years. It's read by more than 90% of pregnant women who read a pregnancy book—the most iconic, must-have book for parents-to-be, with over 14.5 million copies in print.

Now comes the Fourth Edition, a new book for a new generation of expectant moms—featuring a new look, a fresh perspective, and a friendlier-than-ever voice. It's filled with the most up-to-date information reflecting not only what's new in pregnancy, but what's relevant to pregnant women. Heidi Murkoff has rewritten every section of the book, answering dozens of new questions and including loads of new asked-for material, such as a detailed week-by-week fetal development section in each of the monthly chapters, an expanded chapter on pre-conception, and a brand new one on carrying multiples. More comprehensive, reassuring, and empathetic than ever, the Fourth Edition incorporates the most recent developments in obstetrics and addresses the most current lifestyle trends (from tattooing and belly piercing to Botox and aromatherapy). There's more than ever on pregnancy matters practical (including an expanded section on workplace concerns), physical (with more symptoms, more solutions), emotional (more advice on riding the mood roller coaster), nutritional (from low-carb to vegan, from junk food–dependent to caffeine-addicted), and sexual (what's hot and what's not in pregnant lovemaking), as well as much more support for that very important partner in parenting, the dad-to-be.

Overflowing with tips, helpful hints, and humor (a pregnant woman's best friend), this new edition is more accessible and easier to use than ever before. It's everything parents-to-be have come to expect from What to Expect...only better?.

3it was "fine"Aug 23, 2010
This book was a gift from a friend who picked it up at a thrift store for me. I got it early enough in my pregnancy that I was devouring any sort of pregnancy information and fetal development information I could get my hands on. This was by far not my favorite source. I found it sort of preachy...(lots of nagging you about "making every calorie count", etc) and dramatic. Also, I thought it was poorly organized, with different symptoms scattered throughout months as opposed to in one logical place. You had to hunt a lot to find what you wanted. I MUCH preferred The Mayo Clinic's Guide To a Healthy Pregnancy. I typically even turn to the internet before I turn to this book. But, if you find it at Good Will for 99 cents (which you probably can), I'd say go for it and use it as a supplement. It's always good to have another perspective to look through in your spare time.

5Love this bookAug 23, 2010
I love this book. It has been so helpful. Definitely recommend for any expectant mother and father.

5Must HaveAug 23, 2010
This book is a must have for any new mom... a LOT of it may not pertain to you because it discusses a LOT of complications that you can have during pregnancy. It can make you a little paranoid but you will be very well informed if anything were to go a little differently than planned. Glad I read it!

5the CLASSIC reference to your pregnancyAug 16, 2010

If there is one book that will make your 9 months of pregnancy manageable, you need to get the new 4th edition (completely revised and updated) of "What to expect when you are expecting." The claim on the top of the cover page ("the world's bestselling pregnancy manual") seems a bit embellished, until you get a chance to dive in and use it.

The book is truly built as a manual. Written by a mom, who back in her days of pregnancy did not find any such manual on the market. The book is updated with the latest scientific information, and is very easy to use (thorough index and easy-to-follow page layouts). My wife and I are expecting our first, and every week we read and go through the chapters for the specific month and week. When she recently had two issues come up (related to pregnancy) ... yippy ... this manual had useful information that backed-up what the doctor diagnosed and recommended.

Of course, this manual would not be complete if it only covered the 9 months of pregnancy. There is a chapter on "Before You Conceive" and one on "Postpartum." The Dads are not ignored, as they have their own chapter, and there is also a chapter on complicated pregnancy and one on coping with pregnancy loss. The book is well organized, great diagrams and suggested exercises. All in all, this is a sort of a Bible to the ins and outs of a pregnancy. This book has been very informative and we would suggest it to any expectant couple. Happy experience and delivery.

5Book is good, But the price at Amazon was way higher than from outside shops. I had to cancel the order and buy from outsiteAug 08, 2010
Book is good, But the price at Amazon was way higher than from outside shops. I had to cancel the order and buy from outside shop for much cheaper and return the book.... I ended up paying the shipping fee unnecessarily.

Book is good and worth buying...
